CarsonFC: Frequently Asked Questions
Approx $500 per year, broken down as follows:
- $120 - league play, Great Basic You Soccer League (GBYSL)
- $45 - Club support, Carson FC.
- $50-$100 - Uniforms for players. Typically lasts for 2-years
- $150-$300 - 3-6 local tournaments in our area (truckee, reno, carson city)
The travel is usually a day trip. More competitive teams (U11+) will travel to Northern California. Each tournament will cost approvimately $50 per palyer + travel costs.
Governed by our Bylaws, all board members and coaching staff are volunteers. They are not paid; any and all sponsorship money, fundraising, and donations are put into the development of our athletes. This could be in the form of league or tournament player scholarships, as well as offsetting the costs of player uniforms. As a Club we also provide financial support of Coaching Development to increase our coaches certification levels and knowledge of the game.
Each team will be allotted 3 scholarships to help offset club fees of $45-$120. We also provide coaches, players and parents opportunities to volunteer at different events throughout the year. Please contact Allen Alexander Vice President at email@example.com or work through your coach.
Starting with AYSO, they have every element of recreational and competitive in different parts of the country. Speaking to our area of Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville and Dayton it is set up as more of an "introductory" method of getting into the sport or from what some families state, a choice between other sports. AYSO is a great organization and many of us have coached or had our kids playing in AYSO. The season lasts from August - October, all kids are put on a team based on age. Cost is $150 for play and includes a uniform and a ball. Season is approx. 8-weeks. Many coaches are volunteers and have some or no experience. AYSO offers training to parents for coaching and refereeing.
Recreational or "REC" as it is called is the next level of commitment and much closer to Club / Travel teams. Rec teams reside under a Clubs umbrella of teams. Tryouts are typically in June. Players will tryout for a Rec team based on their age. Practice will start in the summer and then officially with games in August with playing other local "REC" teams. Games will go through approx November. Practice and Games will start up again in February, you will typically play on the same REC team. Some REC players may guest play with clubs travel teams if they are willing the coaches feel the athlete is ready. Cost is $300 for the year, which includes uniforms. Volunteer referee’s, assistant coaches and team managers are needed. Many coaches are volunteers, have some to a lot of playing experience. Coaches and Players follow the guidelines of our club from coaching disciplines to athlete code of conduct. Our club is under Great Basin Youth Soccer Club. Our club offers coaches training, athlete development and soccer camps. The goal of REC is to develop players but with less commitment level (financially and time) than our Club / Travel team.
Competitive or Travel Teams are the highest commitment level from Club members, coaching staff, player, parent, time and financial. Competitive teams are under our Clubs umbrella. Tryouts are in (link to the tryout page) July. Athletes will tryout for their age bracket or possibly an age bracket higher. This is known as playing up if selected by the coaches. Practice will start in the summer and then officially with games in August with playing other local "Club" teams. Games will go through approx November. Optional in-door play in the winter will be offered to the team. Practice and Games will start up again in February, you will be on the same team. Some Club players may guest play with clubs other teams if they are willing the coaches feel the athlete is ready and they are only playing up 1 year. Cost is $500 for the year, which includes uniforms. Tournaments are a big part of Competitive teams. U8-U11 may play 3-6 tournaments per year. Many are local (tahoe / reno / carson city). U12-U19 may play 4-10 tournaments a year. If the teams are really good, they will play in Vegas, California and local tournaments. On average a tournament is approx $60 + your own travel expenses per player. Volunteer referee’s, assistant coaches and team managers are needed.
